3.     What challenges does KUCC face?

 

 Loss of Membership

--shrinkage, loss of members, declining membership, decline in membership;  shrinking attendance; dwindling church population; steadily declining membership; declining membership; declining membership; decreasing membership in recent years; losing members; shrinking; --aging; graying congregation; declining and aging membership; aging and shrinking membership; advanced age of remaining members; church growing older; aging congregation and need younger members; declining and aging membership; aging congregation;

Retaining and Growing Membership (especially families with children)

----retaining members, keep members; difficulty retaining members; --attracting new members and keeping them, try to get new members, increase membership, finding new members, rebuilding the active membership; attract and retain families with children (develop programs to do this); promote younger members for future; more younger members; membership; more families; how to grow; need younger families; --need to help new members become connected; --must grow and find pastor who can help us grow, grow to sustain our church, growth; growing and a pastor who can help us do this;

--new minister who can attract younger members; --more ethnic and age diversity in congregation

 Congregational viability

--more people to work in the church as current members are getting burned out; more people to carry the load and pay the bills; not sure how long we can go on if we don't grow; can become so small that we cannot retain current activities;  if not dying we are in serious condition because not getting new members; fewer people involved and risk of burn out; --get current members more involved to support existing programs; getting more people involved; --small numbers for much work; --shortage of professional, executive, skilled craft and trade membership to get done in church what needs to be done;--small number of male members

 Welcoming Church

--shadow side of being friendly and caring is that it sometimes feels exclusive where only those who have been around are welcome; --learn to live what we say we are – open and affirming;

 How to market KUCC in community

-- Faith values not shared by much of the immediate community; --make community aware of who KUCC is as a faith-based community and how we are different from other local churches;

 Youth – bring them back

--lack of children/youth and their families, loss of children as they become adults;

--having a youth minister for youth now and for when we grow and have younger families; --develop good youth programs; youth groups; --youth participation; encourage youth participation;

 Building maintenance

--building that is growing older; --need to make buildings more handicapped accessible;  

Worship

--Lack of alternative worship services; --lack of vibrant and meaningful worship

Find a vibrant pastor; find excellent new pastor; finding new pastor
