Give St. Louis Neighbors an Easter  Smile

Help With this Ministry Effort

It is time once again to turn our attention to the families served by our inner city ministry partners, God’s Helping Hands, and what will make Easter happier for their community and more meaningful for ours. Mission and Outreach is looking for individuals who can help Judy Kamper and Mary Mohl coordinate this year’s Easter outfit collection for God’s Helping Hands. Tasks include getting names and sizes from Janis Hutchinson, GHH outreach coordinator;creating a sign-up system for those who want to purchase outfits; collecting and sorting the outfits once they are brought to church; and scheduling delivery to Janis. If you could help with one or more of these tasks, please contact Judy Kamper or Mary Mohl.

Purchase an Outfit

You will soon be hearing about the opportunity to purchase an outfit for an adult or child who might otherwise not be able to dress up for this important day in our lives as Christians.  The photo above shows some of the recipients of our 2016 effort.  Their smiles confirm how much their new Easter attire means to each of them.

Guatemala Partnership–Help Host Visitors in April

In the summer of 2012, twelve women from Kirkwood UCC traveled to Guatemala to learn about the country and look for a way to “do mission” in Guatemala. That search led the team to CEDEPCA, the Protestant Center for Pastoral Studies in Central America, which offers education, spiritual guidance, and social justice support for their community.  Inspired by this agency’s work, KUCC established a partnership with CEDEPCA,  In 2014 we hosted two CEDEPCA staff members here, and in 2016 a team of 12 traveled from KUCC to Guatemala to continue learning about this neighbor to the south.  The photo above shows members of the KUCC team giving their hosts at CEDEPCA yarn for their fiber projects.

In April KUCC will once again host two CEDEPCA staff members who wish to learn about disaster relief and social justice efforts in the U.S. and also to improve their command of English. If you  would be willing to help welcome our guests and share St. Louis with them, please contact Emily Kuttenkuler or Judy Kamper ). For more information about this partnership, see our Walking with Guatemala page.
