God’s Helping Hands’ Creates Easter Smiles
GHH’s wrapped up a series of Lenten activities with a celebration on Saturday, April 15. The children reviewed previous Lenten lessons, completed a craft activity, enjoyed a small meal, and dyed Easter eggs. The event concluded with our annual Easter Egg Hunt, distribution of Easter baskets, and an invitation to all to come to church on Easter Sunday.
Guatemala Partnership–Our Visitors Share Easter Fun
Kirkwood UCC’s global partnership with CEDEPCA in Guatemala is moving forward with another important chapter. We are currently enjoying the presence of Antonieta de Morales and Priscila Barrientos, staff members of CEDEPC A, in the life and ministries of our church. Spending a month with us in St. Louis will give them opportunities to improve their English, which will allow them to work more effectively back home to network with agencies which may support their efforts to provide education, theological training, and disaster support for those they serve.
On April 15, Priscila (left above) and Atonieta (right above) helped with the Easter program sponsored for neighborhood families by God’s Helping Hands in North St. Louis. In the photos above, they are helping with the Easter crafts and egg dying for a lot of happy children.
Our partnership with CEDEPCA began In the summer of 2012, when twelve women from Kirkwood UCC traveled to Guatemala to learn about the country and look for a way to “do mission” in Guatemala. That search led the team to CEDEPCA, the Protestant Center for Pastoral Studies in Central America, which offers education, spiritual guidance, and social justice support for their community. Inspired by this agency’s work, KUCC established a partnership with CEDEPCA, In 2014 we hosted two CEDEPCA staff members here, and in 2016 a team of 12 traveled from KUCC to Guatemala to continue learning about this neighbor to the south.
